Thanks to everyone who attended the opening and made my photo exhibit debut a success! It was an honor to share with everyone my views of the city. Many people at the opening asked how I shot the multi-exposure reflection photos or how I accomplished the ‘look’ using Photoshop techniques. In response, I would like to note that all of my photos are single exposure shots capturing what I saw at the moment and none were manipulated in Photoshop. All photos are digitally processed using Lightroom.
For me, photography is about sharing with others what I see or what I want people to see, leaving further meaning up to their own interpretations. It’s about people-watching and being keenly aware of my surroundings. Photography enables me to take a 360° view of my day-to-day experience beyond my immediate 5’6” peripheral view.
I’ve lived in the Boston area since 1994 always on the ‘other side of the river’ never with an official Boston address: Cambridge, Belmont, and Watertown. I’ve always wanted to live right in the city with the romantic notion of experiencing all of its the benefits and annoyances. My suspicion was that living in the city would be very different from just driving in or T-ing it in to catch a movie, check out a restaurant, or for some shopping. I wanted to give life to my suspicions.
Over Thanksgiving of 2006, I decided to move into the heart of the city right next to Fenway Park, the home of my beloved Red Sox. This exhibit captures a slice of My Life in the City; my perspectives, my experiences, and my passions. This series was partly inspired by seeing Edward Hopper’s work at the MFA, paintings that capture a different perspective on urban life.
I would like to give many, many thanks to Randall Armor for encouraging and challenging me to take on something that I thought wouldn’t be possible.
My formal training is in Landscape Architecture. I practiced professionally for 6 years before moving on to my next life as a Information Architect/User Interface Designer in the Technology industry designing user interfaces for consumer-facing web products and enterprise applications. My passion is in problem solving as a Designer. In my Photography, I push myself to not just take well-composed snapshots, but to see and think beyond the obvious.
All exhibit and non-exhibit prints are $200/ea, matted and framed, available after the show. Please contact me with interest or questions: email or call 617.680.7899.
